Austin is a relatively small city, and a lot of it is easily walkable. Even so, there are some instances where walking won't do. We hope to transit as many people as possible by begging of current Austin Ellingtonians. However, some may wish to rent cars. A couple other options exist:
Capitol Metro Bus System:
The bus system has expanded over the years, and a bus is usually available to most of the places you. For help finding the best route to get from point A to point B, CapMetro has set up a pretty good TripPlanner. For maps and schedules of all the routes, please see here. CapMetro has also set up a call line (posted at all stops) which will can also help you plan routes and/or get you more info. The number is 512-474-1200
Taxis
Unlike bigger cities, except for in busy or downtown areas or right by hotels, you will not likely be able to flag down (or even be passed by that many) taxis. However, because Austin is so small, taxis will usually arrive within 15 mins after calling. Some of the major Austin cab companies include the following:
Yellow Cab: 512-452-9999
Roy's Taxi, Inc.: 512-482-0000
Austin Cab Company: 512-478-2222
Parking
The most convenient visitor parking spots will be in the Speedway Garage: http://www.utexas.edu/maps/main/buildings/swg.html. Free parking may be available in the space between SWG and SEA, particularly during the holiday weekend. Also, there is metered parking along Dean Keeton by NMS http://www.utexas.edu/maps/main/buildings/nms.html and along San Jacinto on the other side of the ARC:http://www.utexas.edu/maps/main/buildings/arc.html. It may also be possible to park all along San Jacinto even on campus--watch for signs that show where you can and can't park.
